View Full Version : Why do people consider Diaby a write-off, when Rosicky was out for 18 months too?

by fans.
Nobody thought he would really have any impact if he ever returned.
But he has, it has taken a while though.

Diaby is losing lots of time he is 27 now he's lost a lot of time where he would really mature/develop etc.

player pre-injury.

and he has not been entirely dead for the last few years. He has played games, trained with world class players, etc.

that might not be the case. but it feels that way.

He missed 1 season but then he was playing games and has been a consistent performer up until the last few months. So one leg break and now whatever the muscle injury is, no idea.

Diaby has been injured for the majority of at a guess the past 3-4 seasons, different issues each time, weeks becoming months.

Very different.

Back four years.

Secondly, his contract is up this season. Can arsenal seriously offer him a bumper new deal after having started 31 games in the last four years? He missed two whole seasons in that stretch with separate injuries. The last we saw of him was in september 2012 when he got injured having a shot.

Before thst he has started 25 games or fewer in every season bar one, meaning he has effectively been unavailable for more or less half of every season, assuming he would have started had he been fit.

He has been with us nine years and only once has he started more than half the games in a season.

This isnt new, it is merely getting worse. Compared to rosicky, who had one major lay off due to one problem.

Would you give him a new deal?

In the last three seasons.

Three years that is. Three whole years.

injury problems, then why not.

I also think this is an ethical matter and that Wenger has a duty of care to retain him and give him the chance to prove he can stay fit.

Certainly at least until he can attract attention from other clubs. At the moment, no-one would sign him.

He will hopefully be fully fit for one last thrust. ie - injured third game of the season

You have to admit, it is a nasty decision either way. If he remews amd nothing changes, we have blown a fortune. If he lets him go amd he stays fit elsewhere, we look ridiculous- as we all know, he is a very fine player.

Anyway... The contract situation changes everything. He has a year to prove he can cope and is pver the worst of it.

Still, the alarming thing is the variety and number of injuries that are often caused by nothing in particular.
