Does that really happen? The "Can Mr Sands...." = "Fire alarm" or whatever?

IE: When the announcer at The Em's says "Can Mr Smith from Billericy contact the nearest steward" he really means "Diaby is entering the building can all medical staff be on alert"

??

I didn't stick around to see if it was anything serious or a false alarm...

I Googled it afterwards and what I thought was silly is that they virtually all use the same name. So if you are in the theatre and it is Mr Sands, you know...

My sister worked in the bedding dept of Selfridges and they had a tannoyed code in the same vein. Will mr Semtex or somesuch report to blah blah..

For those not old enough to remember Selfridges was attacked in those days so the staff took it quite seriously.

Any how when this bomb warning code gets played the staff were supposed to go hunting for bombs. Of course most of the staff tended to lift a cover or move a pillow, apart from one old bint, who had worked there since 1723, who took her walking stick a swept it vigorously under each bed looking to hit something.

Suffice to say as soon as the warning was played all other members of the dept. were found sprinting to be in the basement waiting to hear the bang as she found one.
