Some drastic failure in the flight deck involving destruction of avionics and crew incapacitation, leaving the aircraft to continue on autopilot until out of fuel, or a hijack.

Either way, it's underwater and the Septica will find it tomorrow.

where it was pointed till ran out of fuel. My initial thoughts too. But this would also involve the passengers to be out of it completely as well right? Decompression, totally? Do you think this thing flew out randomnly for 4-5 hours without anybody twigging that it was slowing down or losing altitude at all?

their primary (ie military) radar coverage works. Or doesn't. Lots of face saving going on.

Decompression affected the whole flight all at once - that was a Boeing too i remember..poor souls, they texted goodbye to their loved ones - mystery about the transponder being switched off? Or was it?..
