There is a great deal of arse-covering going on. Someone has f**ked up in a big way.

Actually, 'Boom' is a bit insensitive in this context, isn't it?

and contradictory, there's simply no way of hazarding any sort of informed guess.

We are told that the a/c was level in the cruise when contact was lost via transponder. We don't know whether they were in voice contact with Singapore or Ho Chi Minh City ATC at the time. The Malaysian Air Force eventually 'fessed up that they had a primary radar trace from that point to a point west of the Malaysian peninsular in the Straits of Malacca, but yesterday they denied saying any such thing. We know that the engines would have been transmitting data on occasion back to Boeing, but when questioned about this, the Malaysians reply with an answer about radar.

They are either completely incompetent or telling massive porkies.

I admit it's a bit leftfield.

I have gone through almost every other possible scenario I can remember from films.

Wee debate about this subject.
Reports that some relatives have been calling their missing loved ones and the mobiles have been ringing.
A chap, some telecommunications expert, said "No no,even if your phone battery is dead and the sim card removed you will still get a ringtone.
Hmmm says I
What a load of yarbles

circumstances? Can Boeing not tell what they know?

It doesn't sound likely. On the other hand, they have said that you will get a ringtone 'these days', and when I come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I got a 'The cellphone number you are calling is not available...' message. Now I reckon it rings and then goes to voicemail.

Anyways, I'd be pretty sure these chaps aren't sitting in a jungle somewhere refusing to answer their phones, which they have just charged at a handy plug.

Now we're hearing that an NTSB representative has gone to Malaysia and decided that the a/c could have flown for another 4 hours after losing txpdr contact.

Could? Could? What in the name of the living fúck does that mean?

It's almost as if the strategy is to release the most nonsensical *******s possible into the public domain, so that everyone gets confused and fed up with it, and the search can be scaled down over time until it becomes one of the great mysteries. 'It just disappeared'.

Some c**t's shot it down, haven't they? And there's a fugging conspirass to cover it up, isn't there?

But the level of panicky flapping about does seem to suggest that, yes. There also seems to be a lot of activity apparently designed specifically to ensure that the location of the bloody thing is not found, along with any incriminating wreckage.
