The only problem is that the letter is addressed to my grandad, who doesnt even live in the country and I've not been the victim of any crime.

When I called them they advised me to call the old bill who have refused to tell me anything about the crime that allegedly took place at my house due to "data protection issues".

I have (correctly) pointed out to them that data protection legislation actually entitles me to see each and every piece of information they have about me, and also people in my family, and that if their shoddy record keeping has led to my insurance premiums going up as a result then I will have no other option than to begin court proceedings to recover costs from them.

Like a barrack-room lawyer, tossing half-truths around with the very gayest abandon.

Your Grandad may not be viewed as such assuming he is still alive.

So, in this sense at least, I very much know my rights

Just this morning I had a very angry lady shouting at me, threatening to contact RTE as I (me personally) had breached her rights under DP.

Naturally she hadn't a clue what she was talking about.
