I think, not 100% sure, that clubs on occasion can claim compensation from a national FA for a player being injured on international duty.

Are you suggesting the players also see these games as meaningless, or as meaningless as we do?

So if these friendlies are important to them - but not to the club - it would be only fair if they were to take the consequences of injuries.
