was working perfectly well up until last Sunday. Engineer mentioned gas leakage, asbestos and other nasties...said he had no choice but to stick a notice on it and cut the supply off at the mains. Hope Neg's piggy bank is full :-)

The key thing is to get one twice as big as they recommend.

We had ours changed 3-4 years ago by a qualified engineer from Camberley, I can send you the details if you want

Apparently it was kicking out 16x the safe level of carbon monoxide.

I was keen to see how toxic it was exactly. A quick deep breath leaning over it confirmed that it was indeed very, very toxic. :jorge'sbadtrip:

We had to have the whole heating system replaced, £8k :-(

I'm not sure I believe in Carbon Monoxide.
'You can't smell it, you can't taste it and you can't see it, but it's there and it will kill you'. Sounds like a racket to me.

...but send me the Camberley chap's details too. It's good to get personal recommendations for work done.

Fellow Gooner mate George (sits in Block 14 at Emirates) is a Gas Safe inspector and plumber. These are the only boilers he recommends. I can pass on his number to you if you need more information.

We had one installed in 2005 and it is just brilliant.

A condenser boiler. And you can get a grant.

No need.

...but I didn't think he mentioned carbon monoxide. It was an old boiler anyway, one we inherited when we moved in 2.5 years ago. And we never had it serviced...oops.

Still trying to work out whether to stay with a conventional boiler or go with a combi.....

..and luckily we can still get hot water with the immersion heater. You don't get that back up with a combi?

No car ever had an engine that was 'too big'. No aeroplane was ever 'too powerful'. No house ever had 'too much' hot water or 'too much' heat.

What of them?

Can't we build a fairer society by thinking of others? Why do you need a quote, anyway? You've got to have a boiler, you can't say, 'Oh no it's too expensive we'll burn some leaves and sticks instead.'
