Holidaywimb, I'm looking at booking a holiday for the mrs and I for the first week of September. We

want weather to be as good as possible that late in the season and were looking for somewhere quite picturesque. Somewhere with beautiful beaches and little cafes would be lovely. Opportunity for scuba diving would be good too.

I am thinking Crete/Corfu at present. Never been to the Greek islands.

Any other ideas?

amazing history and walk ..plus food nearby.. Nic must be all over it I presume..fits all his ticks. You got to start walk early or late to avoid the crowds..we did some of it with headtorches as we were climbing and bouldering in the area..night time fires and raki etc ..good times

and got a boat out from the other end.

When I went in the 80's the west of the island was very quiet, and took some dust tracks through the mountains to Elafonisi - which was then a remote paradise. When I went back in 2001 there was a motorway to the place and huge hotels everywhere :-

Hired a car in Rethymnon in 2001 to get out to the final ever commemoration / reconstruction of the 1941 parachute landings. Left at dawn, but no fùckin petrol, and no garage open to get any. :-(
