developed a routine for dealing with this kind of person which nearly always works.

Is this the first time you have had a headache?

No

When was the last time you had one?

A couple of months ago perhaps.

OK, and what happened last time you had one?
I took some paracetamol.

And did it work when you took the paracetamol?

Yes

*remain in silence and look at person for around 5 seconds* :-|

These people are mostly morons and/or people that want time off work, though (imo).

probably have a listen to your chest first whilst you take some deep breaths.

They won't give you a scan straight away because they're so expensive.

would have to be considered.

Most of these people just want a note to sign them off work, especially when they've already been off for a week.

I refuse to do this for them unless absolutely necessary.

You know rich though, if someone who went to Stowe popped in he'd be writing out blank scrips for all the laudanum in ceylon.

And, as a side note, I think it's a terrible shame we don't still have laudanum available.

I think we can chart a very real and compelling story charting the decline of the british empire alongside the decrease in popularity of laudanum and other tinctures.

You dont even see apothecaries on the british high street any more.

wonderfully available and widely used. It also coincided with a massive upsurge in both invention and great artistic flowering.

Coincidence? I think not. Nobody's written a decent novel since they outlawed skag, basically.
