View Full Version : This Ukraine business. At what point precisely do riots turn into all out civil wars?

I'm saying when both sides are using automatic weapons, we've missed the turning for riot and are deep in war country.

Shame, because before people started dying, it looked tremendous fun. :-(

We don't really want anyone to be over-reacting otherwise we'll be sending NATO peace-keepers into Acapulco or downtown Detroit and places like that too. And frankly they're busy enough as it is.

The Ukrainese will just have to get on with it for the time being, I'm afraid.

Russia is beginning to look like a bit of an issue, if you ask me. They somehow seem to be combining the worst of communism with the worst of capitalism.

wasn't cold/wet/muddy/pissing down?

I, for one, would love it.

usually raining or too hot and you get put into silly situations that wouldn't happen in real life.

The only good part is when you say that one of your mates is on his stag do and get to shoot relentlessly at him for a pre-defined amount of time whilst he has no weapon with which to retaliate :cloud9:

And it's not like those ever cause any major problems...

Oh :-(

just as we happily hunt them down and kill them. We don't care which.

It's like football or hare coursing; the game's the thing, not the result. Utterly professsional attitude.

autocracy. The EU may be a profoundly undemocratic mess, but they don't kidnap and murder people all that much.

Never met a Russki I would describe as sane in any meaningful sense. They're all paranoid depressives.

Which is the beautiful bit, btw? The trampling over democracy? The privileged autocracy? The way it was conceived by ex Nazis and Fascists as plan B for the Reich? The lies and propaganda as it helped destroy Yugoslavia in support of theocratic statelets and satraps?

resentful name-calling, you can understand why everyone wants to be part of it.

I think on the whole it promotes peace, convivencia and co-operation. It's dragged some of the poorest countries in europe along by decades in the space of a few years and promoted more fluidity in the way people live, work and think. It's been a civilising influence on many countries, not least this one.

It may be a folly but f**k it, rather a folly for such high minded ideals than the folly of conquest for greed and blood.

promotes fluidity of thought. Though, I can see why you sent for the rhetorical hat-trick.

I have no problem with the concept of a cohesive Europe, and certainly something that keeps the old Great Powers at peace with each other is useful, but it is *this* model of autocracy that I dislike. It is actually a bully.
