in march/early april (stoke, sperz, chelsea, everton all away and man city home) it is unlikely we will get 15 points from that lot and in fact 5 draws are quite likely. We could end up fighting for 4th.

Last night epitomised why we are not going to be realistic title winners. No pace in the team and we play in a pedestrian and predictable way. We don't have a top class goalscorer. When the pressure is on then Giroud never fails to disappoint (eg vs chelsea, vs man city, last night). We need to forget this 4-5-1 and get someone up there with pace to play off Giroud.

and we are top of the league but for 1 point.

We have been missing Theo and Ramsay for ages (player of the season contender before his injury). So what more could we have done (aside from signing a top striker, which he tried to do with Suarez and Higuain)

Beginners' luck, I suppose.

Giroud is a target man who holds the ball... reasonably well. He is not a top class forward or goal scorer but if we could pair him with someone who is and has pace then we would be something special.

actually it has got us no trophies in the last 9 years in case you hadn't noticed. It might be a great system if you have a top top class forward like Thierry Henry but we don't. So you have to either get in the players who are top class or change your system.

we beat them easily, should have been 3 or 4 down to Everton inside 15 minutes and they seem to have done that on a few occasions

He did but you don't win titles or trophies but playing well for the first couple of months. He has scored 3 goals in about 14 games and missed crucial chances in the big games vs chelsea, man city, man utd. Sadly he is not a big game player who can make that real difference. And he currently looks knackered.

Yes but it doesn't help that they are playing him out on the left wing. I thought the whole point in him leaving Chelsea was to go and play in his natural position.

or would any of them do? If we had one the Carling cup, would that have satisfied you so you wouldn't be taunted by Adrian Durham on the radio?

I think you need another hobby - look up the Darwin awards, they'll be something in there for you

mostly they had top class goalscorers in the team. If we had Thierry Henry still then fine lets go with it but we don't so lets adapt.

We can ponce about with 4-2-3-1 etc but it's all variations of the same.

them or change the system. Or accept no trophies, not even the Carling Cup for ever. Unless of course top 4 finish is a trophy

The reality is we have none, not even a Carling Cup. Success tends to support further success and helps with this famous "mental strength". We are always nervous against the top teams (check Wenger's quotes after our other games vs top teams in the last few years). If we knew we could actually succeed by winning something maybe it would give us a bit less to be nervous about.

fundamental problems with tactics and personnel

We also qualified from a ridiculously difficult CL group and are in the FA cup still, having beaten Spurs  I'm all for a good old moan, but this seems mental

in any way.

It's clear to everyone that the club decided (for better or for worse) that we would finance a huge stadium environment by transfer trading (selling our best two or three players each year). Last summer IG admitted that was the case and that we are now in a position where we don't have to do that, and indeed we can sign a player of Rooney's value. Then we signed MO for a record fee.

I think Jorge was talking his usual ****e about tactical formations which Red responded to, then I think gco40203 replied in a comment on Giroud and now you I think are talking about Mata.
