I wasn't actually having a whinge, though reading back it does look like it. I agree with you.

I was trying to point out a fundamental incoherence between the feminist argument that liberty and equality are achieved through separating gender roles from sex and the reality that as men we're still handed a predefined set of gendered roles - now with the added proviso that we're not allowed input into them. Properly conceived, feminism should also be liberating for men.

Feminism without some sort of masculine input looks like the thesis/antithesis part of a Hegelian dialectic. The synthesis is missing. I'm not a Hegelian so I wonder if it needs to look like that.

For the moment, I would see a chap's role as being to try obe's level best not to be a dick and hope that makes a difference. It's harder than it sounds, since some types of being a dick is to some extent inbuilt. So the starting point is recognising what those behaviours are and trying to minimise them.

Maybe we'd be completely useless if not for this talent?

There are billions of people on the planet nowadays, after all. We must be doing something right?

"millenia upon millenia of entirely guilt free male domination and I had to miss it by one generation" :hehe:

Not acting a dick is definitely a good start, though I'm not sure there's an entirely unanimous description of what it looks like.
