Sounding like a mixture between the North London giants and an 80's hard rock band, the 'LA Gunners' could be about to appear on the MLS scene
Just as the announcement of David Beckham's Miami MLS franchise reached these shores comes the story of another worldwide English footballing brand's interest in developing their own US soccer club.
The Metro is reporting that Arsenal majority stakeholder, US Billionaire Stan Kroenke, is set to purchase a new MLS license to create a side built in the mould of Premier League leaders Arsenal.
And he is rumoured to be looking to place this new team in Beckham's old stomping ground of Los Angeles, California.
The US market seems to be gathering increasing interest from British football circles, with Beckham's future franchise coming hot on the heels of New York City FC, Manchester City's joint franchise with the New York Yankees.
With that team set to enter the MLS in 2015 and backed by the vast wealth of Khaldoon Al Mubarak, alongside the Yankees' strong New York affiliation and worldwide brand, Kroenke may feel that now is the right time to make his own move to develop a new club in his native country.
Kroenke has already proved himself a successful owner and developer of several sporting enterprises, not only including Arsenal in England and Colorado Rapids in the MLS, but also outfits in the NHL, NBA and NFL.
With the entrepreneur holding a controlling stake in the Gunners he would be able to line up a partnership between the two clubs, that may involve a sharing of club colours, sponsors, players and training methods, as well as naming the side in homage to their London affiliates.
The Metro reports that more information is set to emerge in the coming weeks, though recent news of Kroenke purchasing 60 acres of land in LA for a reported sporting project will only add fuel to the fire, although alternatives include a possible relocation of NFL franchise the St Louis Rams, amid pressure from the NFL itself for a franchise in the city.
And only time will tell if that fire is at all linked to any kind of red and white cannon.
