View Full Version : Thing about Bob Crowe is that he's no more a socialist than I am.

Socialism simply gives him the means whereby he has been able to parlay his talents for bombast, rabble-rousing, bullying, intimidation, extortion and graft into a lucrative career that also grants him the fame he craves.
Sadly, the union movement - whatever its well-meaning ideals - will always cause his sort of scum to rise to the top.

As a proud union member - I still pay my subs five years after leaving the job - I'd be the first one to admit that the whole thing needs a shake up, not just from the union's point of view too, from the whole industry.

I read a fascinating thing by Will Hutton's people recently which explored Germany's business culture in relation to employment rights disputes. They have an amazing infrastructure over there with union reps on boards, the crazy thing is that it's so much less adversarial so it actually works better in people's interests.

Why does this country always err on the side of caution and assume the status quo is the best option?
