A Romanian lad working for a little over half the market rate was doing something similar-ish to me in another department. When I say similar, I mean that to managements’ small brains it looked similar because we both did stuff with data and sometimes output pretty graphs and things for them to look at. So when they were wielding the axe they decided that he could take on some of what I was doing for less.
I told them that no-one else except the software supplier could do the systems integration work I did, and it would cost them four times the price, but they decided to defenestrate me anyway, with a generous payoff. A former colleague from there has now joined me at where I am now, and says that they’re struggling a bit without the stuff I used to do for them. Ha!
