seems the same in cricket with Fletcher and Flower

for the success we enjoyed in the mid 2000s (ignoring having a bowl in Oz of course!!).

He seemed ideal for Fletcher's early regime, was hard (or is that big) nosed enough to get players performing on the field as a team.

Deserves a massive amount of respect imo. Unfortunately while Vaughan was able to take on the team on to another level, can't quite see that happening with Cook (a disparity in the ability of the players available being one factor of course). Probably the best man for the job still, though I saw one report suggesting he might not only lose the captaincy but be dropped if his form doesn't pick up :yikes:

He was still addressing players by their surnames when he started commentating.

very disappointing. More pissed off by the arseholes gloating and rejoicing at the end of the career of a man who has scored more runs for England than anyone else :-(

be nice if they picked an opening partner for him and stuck by them for once

Not exactly a great advert for the game. Come watch England - Cook and Root might hit the ball off the square this afternoon and if you are really lucky, you might see Jonny Bairstow play with a straight bat

If it wasn't for the piety around the '.. stays in the dressing room' stuff we would probably know exactly how much of a cùnt he's been.

only denied a win in India by magnificent inningses from Sehwag and Tendulkar and while culpable for the Moores sacking (which saved England from years of that **** in charge) he can hardly take the lion's share of the blame for Flower's resignation - far more factors involved in that (not least Flowers's relinquishing of the one-day job).

As for what comes out of the dressing-room, I would imagine it will show certain parts of the core of the team behaving like c**ts towards him. He is a bit different you know - therefore has no place in the sanctity of an English sporting environment

been a poisonous influence on that team for far too long now. Good riddance.

What isn't speculation is the textgate thing, from which he should never have been allowed to come back.

Kookaburra balls, turning a blind eye to chucking and inflated averages. It's all very depressing.

this may stretch to the England setup but certainly in the 1st class area (I'm going back a number of years here), he has always been a rather unpopular person.

Great cricket sides have always needed and had "exciting" players. What you describe is a product of many different things not people thinking that perhaps a batting line-up of 6 Alastair Cooks might not be a good thing
