View Full Version : I don't really understand why London needs a tube system.

After all, the useful area of the city is all perfectly walkable. From Victoria to Fleet St, Borough Market to Selfridges is delightfully compact. The bits around this are just dreary suburbs, really, and of no use to anyone.

and full of human filth, but if you weigh up the amount of empty journeys they do they are actually more environmentally unfriendly than cars.

of the city.

Many suburbs exist soley from the tube.

The roads are not wide enough in London for other types of transport imo.

Where will you find a window big enough?

This happens all the time in New York.

There are plenty of times I've seen a broken down car or bus or something causing a big mess and there police are nowhere to be seen to get the traffic started again.

They also need a backup plan for these tube strikes. Close certain roads only to buses imo and run replacement buses in the central london area.

to replace tube workers with half price Eastern European types.

Who will sign contracts that will not allow them to strike.

London streets are a bit nutty imo.

Easy when you have a North American city. Grid system then slap the train in later.

Free travel around the city and all that.

Could be a little overcrowded on occasion.
