What does 'American' even mean though? Is American supposed to be the native language of the US. Is there even a language called 'American'?

English isn't the native language to the US... Or maybe the bigots meant #SpeakAmerican in the sense that Coca-Cola should instead run commercials in native American languages like Navajo or Cherokee?

You can live in your fantasy Euroworld , but it's a real problem here. Traditionally, every immigrant learned English. Now we have Hispanics attempting to co-opt the dominant language as Espanol. Which Ironically isn't theirs either but I digress.

For Coca-Cola to weigh in on this in this format is a disgrace.

I'm amused how you Euros seem to think that Native Americans have a right to the land that we ourselves didn't ever claim as ours. That was the problem around the world that England saw as an advantage. Plant a flag and claim it.

Immigrant languages decline drastically in second and third generations. That's a historical fact in the US and globally.

Even continuing waves of immigration don't change that. In the case of English and the US, that pattern is inevitable with the global dominance of English as a lingua franca even if there are more native speakers of Spanish worldwide than English.

This kind of anxiety and defensiveness in the US just shows a degree of cultural insecurity and declining confidence about America's place in the world.

It's just an advert - and one that embraces tolerance and is genuinely inclusive. What is there really to be afraid of???

Why not just embrace linguistic diversity, encouraging the learning of Spanish as a second language, while supporting English education among new immigrants?

Other countries and regions benefit from linguistic diversity and there are relatively few countries that rigidly dictate a one nation, one language identity.

France is a classic example, enshrining the sanctity of French, while rabidly suppressing Breton, Corse and Alsatian etc.

The pandering and political correctness taking place, these last few years. they feel like the whole idea of America is under attack, and that they should somehow have to apologize for being American, or for America's actions...so in return, you get an over the top reaction on a Super Bowl commercial
