The Chelsea manager has blasted the way some clubs interpret Financial Fair Play rules and says he is 'waiting' for an investigation

Jose Mourinho has turned up the heat on Manchester City by claiming UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules are “dodgy”.

Chelsea insist they are complying strictly with the guidelines introduced to reduce debt – and have made a profit in the January transfer window by selling Juan Mata and Kevin de Bruyne.

Yet City this week announced their annual losses had been reduced to 50million for last season after they sold ‘player image rights’ for 24.5m to an unnamed company and 22.5m of ‘intellectual property’ to ‘related parties’ such as the New York City Major League Soccer franchise owned by the Manchester club.

They have since spent more than 90m on transfer fees.

Mourinho said: “The way UEFA controls the situation is very strange. There are clubs that are following exactly the Financial Fair Play rules and there are other clubs doing it in a dodgy way.

“I don’t say which clubs – that is not my job. If I was a football journalist it would be an interesting thing to do.

“But that is when Financial Fair Play has to be fair. Financial Fair Play. Not dodgy FFP. Because if it is dodgy, take the fair and just call it ‘Dodgy Financial Play’."

UEFA can fine clubs, deduct points, or even expel them from European competition if they fall foul of FFP restrictions.

Asked whether he believed UEFA financial chiefs would investigate City’s financial results, Mourinho said: “I’m waiting for that.”
