calling Wenger a c**t, essentially, doesn't show a complete understanding of the situation. After awhile people lose patience with that opinion.

Mainly though he addresses a point rather than resorting to bad language and a comment that the person he disagrees with knows nothing.

Who was available? Be specific. who? NOt just paper talk but seriously.

___________

For how much? How many years contract? Loan or permanent? Again, be specific.

________________

What would be the ramifications for other players? What about our tactics? Again, be specific.

______________

TO not answer these presumes that YOU know more about the situation than Wenger. As for judging Wenger it's all about the wins and losses... and draws (excuse me). If you think someone could do better, again, be specific. Wenger OUT! doesn't cut it unless we finish way down the table.

YOu want Wenger out? OK, how's replacing Ferguson going for ManU these days? And they had their pick of anyone.

Trophies are not given out to those who want them the most.

If one can offer constructive criticism and intelligent analysis, then nothing is better than that.

But posts like "ffs Wegner, no striker, no ambition" doesn't really add anything of value to the debate. And it does not add anything more by repeating it over and over again.

These people aren't adults, they are toddlers demanding an ice cream. They want a trophy and they want one now. All the detail is irrelevant.

Best let them scweam and scweam until they make themselves sick.

Although funnily enough, five or six years ago pointing out those restraints and their effects was considered largely unacceptable on here.

You just have to roll with the times.

The striker situation is we would like s bloody good one. That was never going to be easy in january.

January is the worst time to be making statements in the transfer market. We should have found a striker in the summer- if we made an error it was then.

I think wenger's approach this january was entirely reasonable and realistic, as were the results.

When we're really doing well in the present.

Or sometimes you have to accepts the blessings of what you have as opposed to complaining about what you don't have.

Peter

The point, and i am not really making it, is that we have arguably needed a striker for the last three windows, going back to last january. Its quite a long wait.

You cant keep on and on saying nobody was available. At some point you have to settle for someone who is. Not that i am suggesting we do that.

If we end the summer and still havent bought a striker i will start moaning.

I am often very suspicious of anyone who doesn't :-)

We need a striker, so do Chelsea. If they failed to get one last summer, what does that say about the availability of strikers?

Did they get one in January?

devongunner
02-01-2014, 05:29 PM
As for who is available, I don't know but IF you believe we offered for Cisse and Vucinic one assumes they are good enough, then why didn't we get them is the question. My original point now lost in the mists of time was that I merely wondered if we needed to up our definition of value somewhat so that we didn't lose out on players we wanted

answer. I assume I can therefore infer from what you have said that going another 8 years without a trophy is ok by you?

Peter

People laugh, but even the cover striker needs to be better than bendtner and that isnt a very long list. It really, really isnt.

There are other issues in the squad but they will be addressed in the summer. We need another defender, there is the sagna issue and i think they need to take a decision on podolski. He doesnt really seem ideal for us in either of his possible roles. I have a feeling he may go in the summer.

We have to add a striker in the summer. No excuses, even if we have to pay over the odds.

Anyway.... We will find out a bit more sbout this squad between now and then.

Given that wenger knew of the injury he cant have been.

And only wenger is ever right or wrong. The rest of us guess about the facts and form opinions on the rest. That's our job.

but with Chelsea only signing Eto'o, what does that tell you about the market?

Agree, we are a defender short. Also agree about lPod. Still not sure where his best position might be.

I think if chelsea really, really wanted a striker they would find one. The fact that he let lukaku go on oloan suggests he was happy with what he had. Perhaps now they are happy to wait for him to come back. Who knows.

Top strikers are rare and cheap. That said, negredo looks f**king great for 20 million. There must be more, and city cant buy all of them. Most, but not all :-)

I dont think sagna has actually signed anything yet.

but in general towards "that person" who we have become tired of in the "we haven't won trophies" brigade.

Your reply suggests some measure of understanding -- which is that none of us have a f**king clue what is going on. Everyone here would love for us to be able to buy whomever we need at any point in time. But it doesn't happen more often than not. I suspect.

Oh, and buying players doesn't equal trophies either. I presume that you can come up with many examples of that on your own.

Chief Arrowhead

We play very differently than we did 10 years ago, and you could argue that neither Bergkamp nor Henry were true strikers. It's been said that Barcelona play many matches without a striker. I have no idea if that is true or not. Didn't seem like they had one today!

The January transfer period sucks anyway. You have castoffs that everyone knows are flawed, clubs looking to fleece a desperate club, or a player that is flawed that only the owning club knows about (see Arshavin).

Looks like our new boy is injured. The REAL serious question is did Wenger know about that?
