View Full Version : Now what I know about football tactics you could write on a chinaman's cock, but...

...surely even Spurs fans must have got a bit worried when their manager started talking about how all this tactics and formations stuff was a bit overrated? Surely?

Be fair though, that sort of reductive, anti-intellectual approach generally brings approval from the press, especially the right wing press.

He just talks a lot of old nonsense...

On being told that one pundit had called him a “young Harry”, Sherwood said: “That’s got to be a compliment hasn’t it?
"I wouldn’t mind following his career and I wouldn’t mind being a pound note behind him as well.
"I am not trying to be Harry Redknapp but it is a simple game. If you can’t pass the ball to your own team-mates then you have a serious problem because you are going to have to keep on defending.”
His strategy with Adebayor, who has scored three goals in two games since his recall, could have come straight from the Redknapp book of common-sense man-management.
“I’ve not had to gee him up,” said Sherwood. “I’ve just said, ‘There you go Ade, go and play and attack’. I want the defenders to defend and midfielders to play in midfield. Go and do what you do.”

formations and whatnot. But only a fool allows himself to be caught saying it.

Then defends the formation by saying that Man Utd have been playing it

"I didn't see us playing 4-4-2," the Spurs boss said.

"We just had 11 numbers on the field and tried to rotate and fill up every area of the field. I don't know what you are saying about 4-4-2.

"We played with two recognised strikers, but (Emmanuel) Adebayor dropped deep into that area and picked up the ball.

"Our wide players funnelled in. I don't think we were ever two players in midfield. When the ball was on the right, Christian Eriksen tucked across into the middle."

Even though he claims his team did not line up 4-4-2, Sherwood appears to be a fan of the system.

"Manchester United have been playing your 4-4-2 and won everything for the last 10 years," Sherwood responded to another question about tactics.

Everything appears to have been reduced to the level of Michael Dawson.

A goal for them with even a minute or two left would have been very scary.

that could have f*ck all to do with their formation as it might have meant that Adebayor was just being f*ckin lazy
