as you may or may not know, Giroud relies on runners to be effective. If there are no runners, Giroud is ineffective. The midfield was being pushed back so they couldn't get up to support, particularly the wide players.

I take your point but I thought that when Giroud did make it to a good position he did not enforce his presence and was easily pushed off the ball.
Also his body language looked like he wasn't enjoying the experience today.

At this level we really need our players to step up.

And that air-shot whilst smack bang in front of goal summed up the kind of game he was having.

And as you said he was up against 2 top centre halves...unfortunately Giroud was unable to better them...hence the "out of depth" remark.
