does something unusual they sometimes hype it up as spectacular. This was more desperation as he did not go from the left to right in a proper manner. If he had done so we wouldn't have had to improvise in this way.

To be fair it is difficult to do that sort of thing in that goalie gear as it's quite heavy. But nothing special at all. Oh and the puck is moving very fast so it's good reactions.

It's a bit like when in football a star player does something weird sometimes by mistake but they make it out to be genius.
I recall a strange goal that Ronaldinho scored against chelsea which was a toe poke. It was just a toe poke and luckily went in. But as it was Ronaldinho it was thing of genius.

Same body shape as a hockey goalie anyway.

and most other players would have thought there was no point in shooting. It only went in because the goalie was unsighted.

There was also very little backlift on the shot which made the power he generated highly impressive. Only a player with very special technique AND imagination could have scored it.

you own team mates will try to screen the shot. a professional goalie will save the majority of shots coming at them with a clear view. unless the spot is picked perfectly.

The puck is bouncing all other place with deflections in these type of situations.

who I'd score on repeatedly. Always go shortside high beat him everytime.

One point he tripped over his own arse and dramatically saved my shot with his pads. everyone going mental like he did it on purpose.

just an accident.
Not exactly the same situation. but hockey is the only sport I am good at. Or was good at I haven't played for years.

He has to slide laterally on his knees using his pads then be quick and agile enough to get his leg in the right spot and the perfect time. The puck is small and a shot from that close is coming awfully fast.

Yes he was a bit lucky too but a great deal of the time a shot from there with the goalie starting with he did would wind up in the top of the net. Any time a goalie has to slide across like that he's going to need to make a good save. This one was unusual because on most high shots they use their glove to catch the puck or flat blocker to knock it away. It's pretty rare to use a leg to stop a high shot. This is a more typical approach:
