Alternatively, I can open an iOS app, click one button and I have a ticket valid for travel. Simple

years ago and now Londoners just take it as the norm.
It's not right. We moan about things but just accept it.
There should be an option to pay only 5 days for a travelcard.
Nothing more horrendous than seeing a bus with 'rail replacement service' written on it :-(
I wanted to go to Stratford the other weekend. The overground closed from Highbury and Islington. Also at the same time central line closed from Liverpool street.
So the only way to get there was to get the Jubilee line, Which is nowhere near I live.
