people are very touchy about this subject.

And when I try to explain the point of view I sound like 'We didn't win a war to carry a piece of paper/plastic around with us at all times'

It's very hard to explain.

Though I can imagine the very thought of something as clever, integrated and sensible as that would send people into apoplexy.

but since moving here, I realised that no other countries ask to see it, so i never bother bringing it any more. If I fly Oslo to Stockholm, or Munich, or Amsterdam for example, I just walk straight through. There's always a doubt in my mind though that I'll be stopped one day and live the rest of my life like Tom Hanks in the airport terminal

makes me gnash my teeth with frustration. Surely all we need is one card with a chip containing all this stuff? Computer geeks out!

Just plant the chip in each babies neck when they are born and then control all the data from one central government database. Would cut crime immediately as we'd all be GPS'd etc.

it to the Police whenever they demand it. This is a wholly unwarranted interference by the state in the day to day life of it's citizens and symptomatic of state tyranny.

And basically, as a free man, I should not have to prove my identity at the whim of a f**king copper or fear arrest. f**k that.

Some of them still do anyway, of course, but only on Burns' Night.
