and enjoy the magnificent Matthew Macfadyen's Jeeves. A thoroughly spiffing production that captures dear Plum's tone perfectly.

Top hole!

to the food critics lair.
How does one actually become a food critic ? Jay Raynor presumably siddled in throw the back door, courtesy of a bit of nepotism but what about that incredibly fat bloke who dribbles food down his shirt and mumbles between courses ?

With each series he seems to gain a stone. I'm waiting for his aorta to throw in the towel, or for him to explode in a Mr Creosote style grand finale

Sniping at those who do whilst singularly failing to do is surely the lowest existence for a human being?

Giles Coren and A A Gill are exempt from this criticism by dint of being funny.

All three cast members are quite remarkable.

she said "Riots, Rape and Racism".

So much for the three Rs. :-(

That's the problem with theatre. Full of lefties.

It was great, although in fairness I was two Vieux Carrés and most of a bottle of Barolo in by curtain up.

His reviews, if not detailed, at least have the merit of honesty.

I disagree about critics. Good critics are conscientious and valuable guardians of standards. Bad critics are preening narcissists who use their job as an excuse to talk about themselves. AA Gill and Giles Coren fall into the latter category for me.

For good critics, the medium they criticise is something they dearly love, understand and take enormously seriously. As a consequence, a good one will not sneer and will
never condemn lightly. However, when something is bad - really bad - it deserves criticism and the person doing the criticising has a moral duty to do it well and explain without personal rancour why they are condemning it.
These 'sneers' are the mark of the bad critic looking for controversy, a cheap laugh or to grind some personal axe. There are good and bad in all professions - criticism is no different.
