but I used to be fit as a fiddle. And I have a sahn wot runs the Coe distances so I know a bit about O2 traning. Neg suggests that the Krauts are drugged on EPO because they have such stamina. That may be so, but just because a football team manages to develop players with higher stamina than most other teams doesn't mean they're drugged - the potential for improvement of the O2 for football players is huge. Just run a serious amount of interval training. The challenge is of course to balance it against other training. And to avoid losing tempo/speed. But then agian, I'm pretty sure that Seb Coe would run faster than most footballers on the 100 m.

Regarding tough mental experience - I would guess that golf players have a bigger mental challenge keeping focused for 4 rounds each taking 4 hours?

and football in terms of tiredness or fitness.

The tiring part of football isn't the running, it's constantly being impacted by 13 stone of muscle travelling at 30 mph, being knocked to the ground whilst travelling at speed, getting up and going again.

Mincing round a track or swinging a golf bat bears no relation. Neither does rugby, where the impacts are all at low speed.

Dortmund, Bayern and Barcelona are quite clearly drugged off their tits.

professional golf. Which is completely different to the temperament required to play professional football. Or professional athletics.

And so on.

a physical form that is way ahead of the others - and you know that the fag and pint culture still exists in football - then the conclusion is EPO.

Perhaps they just train more running? As I said, maybe that's smart, maybe it's not. Maybe you get less time training with the ball in your feet then, and maybe you lose speed.

And it's not Bayern that are up there with Dortmund, it's Augsburg.

Blimey, I saw two chaps fighting without the ref stopping the game.

They quit fighting when the "ball" came their way and then continued playing as if nothing had happened.

Same with a chap that got an elbow in his nose. He got on with it.

compared to track and field. Which of course means that the fastest football player is about 20 m behind on a 100 m sprint. And then again, a sprinter would struggle with the change of direction a footballer has to manage at high speeds.

Actually, we arrived on the day of the final, between none other than Freemantle and Melbourne.

The waterfront in Freemantle is nice. Great seafood, great beer. And the city is charming.
