"Even at the new Living Wage, it would take seven years to earn the £130,000 a week that highest-paid player Mesut Özil reportedly makes."

Is the implication here that the premiership footballer earns significantly more than the kitchen porter? Genius.

What Pumpkin incident? Pumpkins are wonderful, well except the pumpkins everybody eats here.

but compared to London it really isn't bad.

Average salary is $44000 a year. Electricity is much cheaper than over here. there is no council tax and there is no tv licence.

Travel is cheaper for a monthly pass on the sky train.

and I've been able to find plenty of appartments in downtown Vancouver right in the centre of town around $1200.00 a month including electricity and some even with free cable.

Between 2 of us we can afford this and live comfortably.

The only think that seems far more expensive than here is food shopping and alcohol.

And, of course, soup.

I made Cornish Pasties the other day. Two things:
1/ However carefully you make them (hand-chopped skirt steak, pastry, finely-diced veg, etc) they still taste like that.
I can only conclude that's how they're actually supposed to taste. :-(

2/ Who in God's name looked at the swede and decided it was a viable foodstuff? I can only conclude it must have been one of the scotch.

You're likely to earn between £20,000-£25,000 in most ordinary jobs. My girlfriend is working in broadband support at Telia and she gets £21,000 after tax.

The rent here is about £500-£600 for a nice two bedroom apartment and that includes heating and electricity in most places, and there's no council tax either. A nice house will cost you £100,000.

The only thing that's slightly more expensive is food and alcohol. The booze is taxed by a stupid amount.
