View Full Version : So this whole "moving out of London" thing: sell it to me.

New York City? Dagenham? A crofter's cottage on the Orkneys? There's quite a lot of world that isn't London.

Viewing a poky flat in Hampstead Garden Suburb on Saturday with a shared garden. Can you imagine sharing a garden with the kind of c**ts that live in Hampstead Garden Suburbs?

The prospect alone has convinced me we need to move out.

If I could I'd move right to the middle of no where. But you may not be such a nature enthusiast.

On the other hand, sometimes I think slightly smaller towns are actually better than London; more manageable. Somewhere like Oxford, which has a theatre and cinemas and restaurants, but on a manageable scale, might be the answer.

If rural idiocy or suburban dullness is your cuppa, then get on with it. Unless you fancy another major city, which I doubt.

The countryside is lovely to visit, but it's nice to know that civilisation awaits when you get home again imo.

evening. If men urinating in shop doorways is your idea of civilisation, then good luck.

London is a wonderful city, but it is, ultimately, a city, and therefore full of people. :shudder:

It can be achieved, though. I have a large fence around the estate which does the trick.

And where else are gentlemen supposed to relieve themselves after an evening spent on the noble art of drinking? In a public toilet? Do you want to pay even more taxes?

One despairs, one really does.

I ate at Corrigans in Mount Street recently. The place was full of bored Russians who popped in because they couldn't be bothered to cook. No sense of place or occasion. Many weren't wearing a tie. It was quite dreadful.

Ashberto
10-30-2013, 09:12 PM
Not that it invalidates the original observation - especially as the city is a far more agreeable place now than it was in his time.

Did you know that if you visit Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese in Fleet Street you can sit in his actual chair in his old local?

Fortunately they don't seem to mind me swearing at them and pushing them out of the way.

Its the tourists corking up the tunnel/platform interfaces as tube stations that get me. Not that you'd know about that, but what they do is get to the platform and stop, seemingly unaware of the empty stretches of platform either side, and preventing good, honest pro workers from getting on the train. :shout:
