He just made sure he was the highest paid and most lauded overseas player (he f**ked that up by running back to England)

move there and others have followed since.

Granted, most have been unmitigated failures like Stoichkov and Matthaus though, even if they were both vastly, vastly superior players.

restructuring itself to allow them to make more signings on a similar level.

I think it was more about the will of the owners to change the system, if that will wasnt there then I'm pretty sure that his time there would have been viewed as largely a failure. In the competitive sense it did very little for his team, he spent an inordinate amount of time injured from playing for clubs in the post season in Europe too.

Chris Woods, Mo Johnson and Anders Limpar were no slouches and they were there long before Beckham.

player rule, which in turn allowed them to sign players from europe who were earning far too much to be attracted to go there otherwise.

I think it's fair to say Beckham helped get the ball rolling.

He went because the owners decided to blow their wage structure so they could bring in players who were still at the top of their game or at least not far off it. For goodness sake even Rodney Marsh played in the USA! Although we are talking MLS.

Beckham was the highest paid overseas player in that category, he was not the only player signed then.

rules as a result so they could pay his wages and attract other players from europe. Beckham going saw a shift in their approach to running the league and the salary caps.

Rodney Marsh and Limpar are irrelevant. The rule, which is known by most as "The Beckham Rule" (funny that eh?) is what has allowed people like Henry, Robbie Keane, Tim Cahill, Clint Dempsey to move to the MLS.

Beckham was just the first, most high profile player to come in under the new rule.

I'm not saying you arent right that he had some effect, I just think the effect he wanted to have and the effect he was expected to have were pretty much damp squibs on balance.

If they hadn't thrown out the wage structure for overseas players Beckham would not have gone there. He went for the money.

Getting Henry was more about they could afford him, not as a consequence of Beckham. Henry is a great catch in his own right and he's proving that.

Lori and Judith were supposed to die when The Governor attacked the prison, I'm liking this series though. **** special effects aside, that is.
