I thought it was odd he chose to illustrate it with a game 3 years ago though when there have been numerous examples this year. It will cost us and seems ridiculous when it can be solved by putting a player in the centre circle.

when a corner is taken we have 2 defenders, normally Giggs and Flamini about 20 yards inside the opponents half, normally marking the opponents forward. a third player (normally Ramsey) isn't far from them. This tactic is ok with me, provided the players stick to the plan.

Unfortunately yesterday Arteta was one of the covering players and to say pace isn't his strength would be an understatement. The other problem there was that yesterday Gibbs got too excited and ran forward to help the guy on the left i.e. he forgot his defensive responsibilities and his offensive instincts too over and consequently we suffered.

To have a defender on the halfway line is wrong imo as it leaves too much space (box to halfway line) for the opponents to expose.

If the 3 players mentioned above do not ignore their responsibilities then there won't be any problems, and certainly, Arteta shouldn't be the last covering man.

You have no idea of tactics whatsoever. Leaving a player on the half way line is sensible defending and Alan Hansen is a much better judge of defending than you. He was a professional footballer for Liverpool and won many medals. Anyway you are an idiot.

You wonder if they lost a bit of confidence after the dortmund goals, or maybe it is just consequence of tiredness and a lack of time together after the international break.
