View Full Version : News of Monday's storm

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

"Our main concern looking ahead to the next 10 days is still the potential for a storm on Monday. It is a very complex setup for this system. If the area of low pressure catches the jet stream in just the perfect place at just the perfect time (an idea being entertained by certain forecast models at the moment) then we have the potential for a really damaging storm across England and Wales.

As things stand right now we are looking at gale force winds and some very heavy rain during the course of Mondays - gusts of up to 80mph are certainly possible going by current forecasting model output. We will be issuing a warning for this situation in the coming hours, and will of course keep you up to date on the latest developments."

That's from, y'know, metblokes.

It depends on the wind direction relative to the runway - and of course the wind won't blowing at 80 kt all the time; but a storm of that intensity, if it happens, will ground air traffic. No one's launching into that ****.

More than 80 kt is quite serious, really. My f**king chimney will probably fall over :-(

Branson would still like to get hold of one and fly it.

Amazing that as technology is meant to advance and make the world smaller that we have taking a step backwards with trans-atlantic crossing speeds.

I expect BA would struggle now. The engineering expertise within BAe and BA and Air France that kept them flying just isn't available to Virgin.

It's a real shame. It was a beautiful aircraft, apart from anything else. We don't build beautiful airliners any more. I can barely tell one from another these days.

And it was making money for BA, even at the end.

How comes we let politics stop it? It is a crime against the world.

The they were all 30 years old, weren't they, and becoming more and more expensive to maintain; more and more 'lifed' items to be replaced and more and more component failures, I'm sure.

I want to be in New York in half an hour, make it happen world.

Concord should have died out because something better came along, not so we can all just revert to these plane old planes.

go supersonic over a large ocean, so the only available routes are UK - New York or, I suppose, west coast USA - Japan, and those markets are no way big enough to pay the development costs of a new aeroplane.

There you go.

Do you think Steve Jobs, Alan Sugar etc would have got where they got to had they had your attitude?

Oh, we have encountered the first problem. Okay then, lets scrap that and get back to thinking about what to have for dinner tonight.

Whitstable in December? Are you mad?

So far having a great time.

Chicago was very nice indeed. Interesting city with lots to see

New Orleans was excellent. The whole centre has real character. There are some awful touristy parts where is it very tacky but move 10 minutes from there and it becomes a lovely place to stay. Food, music, arts etc etc. Loved it

Vegas is eye-catching, loud, brash and is probably the purest extract of American culture as far as I can see. I love the fact they have bill-board vans driving the streets advertising hookers whilst preachers are on the corners spouting Leviticus.

Off to Los Angeles this afternoon until Monday, then off to see more after that.
