Take Highgate, for instance. Most people consider Highgate to be blessed with some excellent pubs. All of them are 'gastropubs', but in none of them would you feel uncomfortable just popping in for a pint or embarking on a raucuous night of boozing.

We all need to eat after all.

As long as the pub retains hold of the primary function, that being to serve beer, a place where a man can sit on a stool or a group of men can congregate at the bar to talk ****e and drink beer.

I have seen a few episodes on the BBC of that food program by the very obese chef, he triumphs his two Michelin star pub. I could be entirely wrong but that to me would not be a place where a chap could go in with his paper to sit down and have a clatter of pints. It is primarily a place where people will go for a meal.
