Extra Yard
With Kyle Walker suspended for England's match against Poland on Tuesday, Mediawatch expects Roy Hodgson to do the sensible thing and bring Phil Jones in for some top-notch gurning at right-back. But perhaps former England international Teddy ****tingham has a better idea.

"You could always put Steven Gerrard there because then you've got delivery coming from the right back, which might be essential," ****tingham told talkSPORT.

"We've got great delivery from the left in Leighton Baines and with Gerrard on the right, it might release Jack Wilshere or Michael Carrick to play, then you've got someone threading a lovely ball through from that position as well."

As we've said on these pages before, ****tingham's famed 'extra yard in the head' has an awful lot of room to manoeuvre in there.

I think one manager described him as the best right back in the league or something.

The first instance that convinced Liverpool fans worldwide that the boy was something special was a heroic display in his first Merseyside derby in only his ninth appearance for the club. He featured as a right-back and made two goal-line clearances as Liverpool successfully protected their lead. Finally the England set-up took notice. He was nominated captain of the u-18 side and made his debut for the u-21s in September 1999

For an english,an, the quality of a pass seems to be measured on length.
