City and Chelsea are irrelevant, their being tagged as favourites to win the league is not directly related to their number of central defenders.

as City and Chelsea both had 3, and they were never talked about as lacking numbers in that area. City even had Kompany and Nastasic injured around the same time and only had one fit defender.

I don't see how they're irrelevant. They're talked about being favourites because of the strength of their squads but our chances are rubbished because of our perceived lack of strength/depth in certain areas (granted we're lacking up front although so are Chelsea), areas which those two also share the same lack of depth.

And you know the awarding of favourites tag is related to much more than just squad strength, the return of Mourinho for example will have been a factor in Chelseas price allied with them having won trophies on a relatively consistent basis.

Both Chelsea and City were both perceived as simply being better than us also.

Not sure why you are dragging the number of central defenders into it. I know 1 City fan and he would openly express concern on that area of their side, step away from the first choice pairing and there is doubts in the same way as there is with us.
