By whom I don't know, but there's definitely a scam going on in their 'metrics'.
Try it. check for a flight+hotel combo. After the results pop up you get messages flashing like 'Only 2 tickets left' or '3 others are looking at this hotel' prodding you to make a decision based on availability.
THen, here's the good part, go back and check a couple more times over the next few days. First, what you were looking for is still there ... Second, sometimes they raise the price! So you go check on another computer and, surprise, the original price is back.
