Ozil was a reactive signing, he became available because of internal problems at Madrid and we were in position to take advantage. I don’t think he was ever part of a transfer strategy from the end of last season whereas the pursuit of a striker was.

Wenger went for him as he is as has been widely reported a very Wenger player having failed to sign him three years previous when he originally went to Spain. And also because he is very good.
