A band I have often seen the word ‘country’ used in reference to their music possibly just a reference to their origin from Nashville, though I don’t get it.

Country to me is Philomena Begley, Susan McCann, Big Tom and the Mainliners and other such ****e.

Instead of the "glam" country of Carrie Underwood, etc. their music is purposely 'lo fi' with natural instruments and a more expansive approach - they don't chop their music up into a three minute time slot for country radio.

Of course some of what they do naturally bleeds into the "Americana" genre as typified by the Alabama Shakes, Justin Townes Earle, The Civil Wars, etc.

Then you got your Mumford and Sons types that they label as Folk Rock ?????

Which makes the whole attempt at classification futile. don't get me started on Bluegrass.
