View Full Version : TubeWIMB: The system as it stands favours people living in the suburbs, rather than in Inner London.

They get on the first train that arrives in the morning, and get a seat, rather than waiting for maybe three trains in Hillsborough-like platform crowding and eventually getting sardined. So, a % of trains should start from further in. Of course, the infrastructure doesn’t exist for this, nor for concepts like fast trains that exist on mainlines with sidings and multiple platforms etc. Maybe if an underground depot was built further in ….

OR, as the above isn’t possible, build some new lines that only serve the inner areas. The Islington and City line, for example. Archway, Holloway Rd, H&I, Angel, Farringdon, Bank.

London transport made double profit in some areas. When building the station they also owned the land surrounding it and made money on the house sales.

Express trains would be difficult. They seem to work well in New York but they infrastructure is not there in London. I would be in favour of some express bus routes. there was at some point in the 90's the X43 bus which skipped out the crap in between. It would stop at Angel and not stop again until Old street.

They did have express running on the Piccadilly Line in the past.
Think it was non stop from Finsbury Park to Kings Cross at certain times of day. Or even have trains alternate stations. but neither seem that effective.

There is a proposal for Crossrail 2, The route is safeguarded

I hadn't seen this before.

Stop the bus where ever you want.

usually right in the middle of a junction causing danger and chaos.

The locals used to just yell out 'debarque' and the driver would pull in.

How much more public money do you london types want to spend?

But maybe that has to do with me associating the tube with going to watch the Arsenal on a weekend, and not 7:30 Monday morning going to work.

I mean, the KX/St Pancras development alone dwarfs the total spend on every other station in the last 20 years, or so I read

would not enable LU to do what you suggest. Also, how many trains per hour would you expect to run on each line(considering there is a maximum amount that you can run on the line dependant on the existing signalling system).

Also, I totally disagree with you about platform crowding - where a station/platform is getting crowded, then this is managed by the station staff.

Also, why is it that commuters have difficulty just getting another train, if the one they want to get on is packed?! We run a 2min train service in peak hours ffs.

As for the 'overcrowding never happens' - yeah right. :hehe: Like the police never make mistakes.

travel to Moor Park from West London and hate getting on crowded trains, about 18:00 will be fine, and could you organise something for the changing? make a straight line to it please.

Trixie Popsicle

and also there is a system in place which prevents the worst of it. Ever been to Victoria station in the peak hours.

Point being that London actually has a decent infrastructure, where the rest of the country plainly doesnt.

Could it actually be the result of decent lobbying and strong NGOs like Tefal and the LDA?

Met line has the concept of fast trains. The Northern line does stop and start at Golders Green. Maybe not central enough but there is room for the additional platform.

Northern at Kennington.

Also the Victoria Line uses Victoria as a terminus during the day. Same for Central Line at Liverpool Street.
