Well here it is. The full explanation of how and why Ivory Coast international Gervinho is responsible for landing Mesut Ozil at Arsenal.

Quick short and to the point:

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger sold Gervinho to Roma half way through the window to give Roma the player they needed to replace Erik Lamela.

From there, Roma were happy with their wide options and agreed terms with Spurs to sell their highly sought after Argentinian.

The arrival of Lamela to Spurs - along with Christian Eriksen, Paulinho, Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli and Etienne Capoue then gave Andre Villas Boas and Daniel Levy the confidence they needed in their side to sell Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.

Arsenal then defeat Spurs 1-0 at the Emirates despite not having spent a single pound in the window.

The arrival of Bale marked a massive increase in the wage bill and yet another attacker in Carlo Ancelotti's side.

Needing to offload one of their many gifted midfielders, Madrid agreed to sell Ozil to Arsenal for a cool 42m pounds.

This of course all came to fruition after Daniel Levy supposedly held up Gareth Bale's transfer to Madrid so that Arsenal wouldn't be able to do any business with the Spanish giants.

Reports in El Confidencial today even state that Levy called Real Madrid to stop the sale of Ozil to bitter rivals Arsenal. Perhaps he should have rang the man responsible for the whole transfer instead:

Gervinho.

Shame he'll not get there. And, him and his buddy Joe know the game well enough to know that we can pummel them if we need to go toe to toe financially.
