View Full Version : I guess the spendsamfakkinmoney brigade would have preferred £10m on Capoue to Flmaster for free.

Muppets.

Flam was exactly the type of signing I wanted. (Obv I'd have loved/would still love a big name or two.)

But I felt the squad was weak and wanted some more players of similar quality.

Flamster didn't look any worse today that Jack, Rambo or Tommy.

So I'd have probs if he has to start in place of any of them.

If he'd never played for us, and we'd never heard of him, the SSFM brigade would have been delighted if we'd spunked £15m on an AC Milan midfielder who had got them to the CL final without conceding a goal while playing at LB.

A good signing imo.

I think most just want an in depth squad that can challenge in the face of inevitable injuries throughout a long hard season.

The loadsa money idea was initiated by Gazidis and the press ran with it and expectations were raised accordingly.

Wenger still hasn't reaiistically strengthened in depth across all positions at any price.

tomorrow might go some way to addressing this but I'll wager that even if he gets to two or three in we'll still be two or three experienced players short.

and at the back.

A bit like Flamster.

As I said, I would rather have signed 3 of those type players (which is what AW usually does each summer, 2-3 £10-15m players) that try to get top, top quality and end up with no-one and a weaker squad than before.

I also fumed that Coq left as he was good cover at FB and looked to have decent potential as DM/MF.

The fact that we got Flam means we got a Song quality player, who can play in both Coq's positions, without paying a penny.

I always loved Flam.

My point is that I wanted these 2-3 players who were of equalish quality to our starting XI and therefore would be ok on the bench or to start.

Flamster is one of those.

I was therefore happy with his signing.

My point is that some of the SSFM-B would rather have spent £10-15m on Capoue as opposed to get a £10-15m worth Flam for free, simply because he was free and not £10-15m.

Maybe AW's said he'll pay over market value to get a top, top player because he had earmarked £10-12m for a MF and no, having seen Flam in action, realises he'll do a job for the next 3 years.

If so, I'm happy. And happy to have him back.

Welcome back, Flamster. Ever since your heroic performances at LB in the CL (some of my best Highbury memories) I've loved you.

Pity you left us on a free but that's how we got you. You always played that game to maximise the earnings from your career, but always gave 100%, even when planning to leave on a free, so respect.
