Some folk think that just about sums up the move to the Emirates

We've always known we'd have a period of austerity after moving in.

Can't be arsed looking but there are a few who have said that on here

Didn't know poldoski would get injured. I did say at the time that we should have kept him mind.

Why do Liverpool, Tottenham et al want to do the same as us? They must know there is very little chance of them riding out the move as smoothly as we have, yet it is still something they recognise is vital for the long term futures of their clubs.

The Financial Director where I work had dinner with the FD at Fulham recently, who was saying how he believed the future revenue streams were about mass PPV income from Asia, and that teams might as well play in virtual stadiums with CGI fans.

Of course Fulham might very well think that, as they have a modest fanbase of their own. Though CGI fans could probably do a better job of supporting Arsenal than many of our grumblemutes.

But I very much doubt it was back when we initiated the building of the Emirates, nor do I think it is reason enough to put off clubs from trying to make their moves (Spurs are beginning building of their stadium very soon, iirc)

Is 'grumblemutes' yours? I might have to steal it

And neither is good enough for Arsenal. We've been carrying a number of also-rans, Gervinho was one of them. It was good to offload him, I want young, hungry, talented kids as squad players, not players supposedly in their peak who could, and should, be enjoying their football elsewhere - and, at a level that suits their abilities.

Bottom line, he was a good fit the league he was in. Not the Prem.

Still a huge part though.

Tv and corporate sponsorship are going to be the biggest factors in the coming years but i would imagine the club see the stadium as a crucial part of the brand in terms of corporate revenue, remote fandom etc etc....

While liverpool and spurs undeniably see the benefits of moving grounds i think both have moved very lowly on it, largely due to the huge costs. No doubt our experience is playing heavy on their minds. So i think you could use them as examples on either side of this question.

Who cares anyway. Its done. You cant deny it is an incredible facility.

I said some but you seem to assume I was one of them

I totally see the business sense in the move but I don't think the Emirates is EVER going to truly replace T-real-HOF for character and atmosphere even if we win trophies there
