that Sadaam had WMD but now he & Milliband want more evidence that Syria has used chemical weapons. Got to say I find this quite incredible.

A powerpoint presentation from a man named Colin?

I'm not quite sure what your objection is here, are you saying that they should allow parliament to be bypassed on the basis of something that happened over a decade ago?

about this than there was previously & as we now know the evidence back then was proven to be incorrect. The point has been made that you can never be 100% sure but I think most people will agree that chemical weapons have been used in Syria.
I certainly don't want any more wars or action but these weapons are illegal.
I suggest you watch the two hours of debate that is currently ongoing.

It smacks of this all over again though:

He drew a red line after all, so by GOD something has to be done and FAST so that he won't look like a dithering, feckless, naive socialist. AND he has to do it before the G20 conference in 6 days or else Putin will pummmel him. But then it has to be over before then as well because if it's not .... well, Putin will pummel him.

So yesterday we were left with the spector of Our President giving a speech on non-violence in memory of Martin Luther King, all the while preparing to unleash some bombs, somewhere over there.

At lest the UK is seeking some sort of authorisation from the legislature. They're going ahead by executive fiat because, well, the Constitution is an old document written by dead, rich Europeans and besides, those Wascally Wepublicans are over there and you know how THEY are.

#1 you don't go acting like a tough guy and go about drawing "red lines". But it was during the election and he wanted to look tough on furriners.

We have no strategic interest in Syria, do we? So why the rush? I'd be in favor of him gathering consensus from all political spectrums, which would mean 1) consulting with Congress and 2) making the case in public to gather support. Which is what Bush did re: Iraq.

You can lash out at me if you want, but that does not make what I am saying 100% false, does it?

Also, in 2007 Biden and Obama raised the spectre of impeachment if Bush did not go to them with approval for any military operations re: Iran. You tell me why this is different.

(1) they will, from the UN inspection, have evidence of the chemical weapons attack

(2) they will determine how the gas was delivered, probably from a rocket. this technology being beyond the rebels

(3) you have the intercepted calls from syrian commanders about the launch of chemical weapons

Russia and China will not approve. We do have strategic interests. Hezbollah got into the fight, assisting Syria. Hezbollah, if allowed to proliferate unhindered, would constitute a major threat to Israel. Russia and Iran are backing Syria. We need to offer some resistance to this. I realize it's difficult, because we're essentially on the same side as Al Queda. I think a targeted sort of 'penalty-strike' is the way to go. Fifteen yards for roughing the passer.
