View Full Version : Was the dumping of Song a good or bad move? He was a dominating midfielder.

than Song ever was:

Tactically: Arteta shields and protects the back four. Song bombed forward as if he was Di Stephano.
Distributionally: Arteta can pass like no other (93% accuracy.) Song was often dispossessed in dangerous circumstances or just got lazy or clumsy in possession.
Disciplinally: Arteta keeps his calm, marshals the troops, and when he commits the required professional foul, he rearely gets booked for it. Song was a hot head who often got two yellows for no tactically important reason.

Without Song and with Arteta as pivot, we finished second best defence last year. Back four was the same as under Song.

Not a coincidence.
