What Alan Hansen says is spot on and it is just incredible that AW and the Board have trundled on as if they live in a parallel univers.

"Arsenal have had frailties for the last three or four years in certain positions," said Hansen. "They have the money to fill those positions and Wenger hasn't done so.

"The goalkeeper, back four and certainly a holding player that is destructive are much-needed.

"They have got multi-talented midfield players and the massive pace of Theo Walcott. OK, they haven't got a potent goalscorer - but it's when they haven't got the ball that the problems are there as we saw against Aston Villa."

Hansen added: "I've mentioned four or five positions he needs to fill but he also needs a leader on the pitch.

"Manchester United showed that last season how to pick up points when you play poorly. When Arsenal play poorly then usually it is a disaster.

"They need someone on the pitch that when it is going badly is going to say to the players, 'right you get in that position and just sit for a while'.

"You never see that with Arsenal. You see that with every other team in the league, even for the poor teams you see somebody on the pitch being a leader. With Arsenal you never see it."

With Arteta marshalling. But let's not let that get in the way of things!

And why is there only one?

that is a very good word for him...marshalling. He is like a steward just helping people. I really like Arteta and he deserves his place in the team but he is not a leader. We need someone who is the "put his body on the line" type of player, someone who is a clear "follow me" type of leader when our backs are against the wall. A roy keane, patrick vieira, steven gerrard, tony adams, john terry type player. Someone who will take the lead when the going gets tough...not someone to marshall.

Or ethos. Its mainly *******s but gets a point across without needing to actually look at anything in detail.

We won plenty of games playing poorly last season, and plenty 1-0 with largely defensive performances. We can do it, we just cant do it without arteta. Which again proes you dont have to conform to stupid english stereotypes to do a job.

its been puyol for barca but in any case they have world class players which we haven't plus barca don't play in the premier league and the demands of their league are different.
