....this is just piss poor sloppy and autocratic management....this guy was mine and everyones hero but he is just letting everyone down now with poor decisions.I say no contract until he earns it 7....... very large ffs. Even if he does make one new signing the writing is still on the wall for me.

But he doesn't have a choice other than to get in the recruitments we need, so let's wait and see.

There will still be huge question marks about what has been allowed to happen here. And after the summer we had two years ago people will quite rightly point out that in each instance we only acted out of rank desperation, giving the appearance that had we started ok we wouldnt have bothered buying anyone. It still leaves huge questions as to how we have got where we are.

And the signings, if he makes them..... I can only see us scrabbling around for leftovers or payingmassively over the odds for a name. Every club knows our desperation now. We will get c**ted on any deal.

Even if there is no agenda it is perfectly clear that the club didnt learn their lesson over what happened two years go. They claimed they did...they have actually done the same thing all over again.

Thy sell us the notion that it is harder to sign players when you finish fourth because players want to know you have champions league football. I dont buy it all. I think it is the club that want gusranteed champions league income before they are willing to spend on the squad.

How hard is it for everyone to just hold off on making their final judgement until September 2nd?

Of course it's a huge failure that we haven't bought in cover for the likes of Arteta and Vermaelen in time for the new season, but he could still pull out two or three quality signings.

Judging him based on how likely that may be is straying too far into the realm of supposition to be taken seriously.

Yesterday a great example pf just why that was a **** idea. Expect a few more examples over the next two weeks.

If we get knocked out of the champions league the club will bloody notice as well.

worthwhile. Now we can begin to spend like a club of our status. Obviously that has yet to happen.

And if that doesn't happen, then it makes the sacrifices made in previous windows seem a bit pointless.

Any late signings are 'panic buys', ofc

Peter
08-18-2013, 06:19 PM
And he might. I am saying it wont help with the situation we are currently facing. It is too late to fix that, whatever he does now. A 'huge failure' as you say. That is done amd should never have happened.

Whether he signs players or not from now on, it wont change that. I dont need to wait, its irrelevant.

He has f**ked up and nothing is going to change that. It has happened before and now it has happened again.

That's the point. I want to know why.

Peter

Much of the discontent is down to those comments from ivan. We were told this year would be different and it has. It has been worse!

factor in attracting new players.

Paying the wages the player wants, and the fee the selling club wants seem at least as important, but we don't appear to have cottoned on to that.

This is ostensibly a new transfer environment for Arsenal and the current members of the board. The failings are either down to naive mismanagement or outright stupidity. We don't know why things have happened the way that they have, but, if we recover well during the remainder of the transfer window, then I can move past it - as long as the club shows signs of improvement in the future.

tl;dr We don't know what's caused this summer's lack of transfers. If we can manage to sign some quality before the end of the window then we can move past it, with the expectation of improvement of the future, if we can't then a different course of action might be required.

"How much for him then?"
"£25M and he wants £120K per week".
"Does he know we're in the Champions League? We'll bid £15M and he'll have £70K and like it"
"We didn't sign him"

I just cannot see the logic to leaving it this later unless it is to do with CL qualification, in which case he can't get in a couple of squad players and then claim this as an adequate excuse.

If it is CL qualification I'd expect top names as the only way to justify this brinkmanship.

halfsharkalligatorhalfman

You're making quite a leap of faith by suggesting that leaving signings this late was Wenger's intention, though.

Peter
08-18-2013, 06:39 PM
In between we finished third, avoided a qualifier and did all our business early. Maybe it is a cpincidence. Seems odd though.

Even if we qualify for the cl it wont change the fact that this will have made it much, much harder. Scraping through proves nothing other than we got away with it.

halfsharkalligatorhalfman
08-18-2013, 06:42 PM
And fully agreed on the observation re timings being tied into CL qualification..

I just hope that the manager/board manage to pull this off. I'm not one of the subscribers to the 'Arsenal/Kroenke only care about profit, not winning' and I want the club to show that. Wenger deserves a couple of seasons to reap the rewards of all the hard work he has put in, but if he cant get it right now then he might not get that opportunity.

Peter
08-18-2013, 06:42 PM
Though three top quality signings will of course cheer me up. :-)

Peter
08-18-2013, 06:47 PM
And that pur financial situation/approach has changed.

Take away those comments. All you have seen this summer, so far, is us bring in over 10 million in sales, trim about 12 million off the wage bill and not spend a penny, leaving ourselves with the smallest squad i can rememer us having.

Based solely on that, would you assume we ae in a stronger financial position?

It is wuite funny. Its almost as if ivan saying it makes it so. And people are actually assuming it is true.

For the record, it may well be, but i am going to wait and see it before i decide.c

year.If there was a time to say that we could spend, then this year would be it.

Peter
08-18-2013, 06:55 PM
We have literally no idea whether they want to spend on the team or not. It may already hae been earmarked for elsehwere-spent even.

And of course, whether it is there or not is irrelevant for our purposes until they actually spend it. Money in the bank does not a better squad make.

I'm talking about television and sponsorship stuff. Perhaps that explains why our so called new financial power doesn't necessarily amount to very much yet.

but more that there is a possibility that the player(s) he want, want a guarantee of CL football before they join. If that is the case then I'd expect them to be top players, not average squad players.

I'm making assumptions, not showing faith.

halfsharkalligatorhalfman
08-18-2013, 06:59 PM
But what's relevant is our financial wherewithal compared to what it was last year. Instead of making a 15-20 million operating loss (before transfers/property), we will now be making a 50-odd million profit, and that's before taking into account the massively reduced wagebill (about another 20-30 million).

Before we were making a significant loss year-on-year. Not any more.

Peter
08-18-2013, 06:59 PM
Kicking in. Then it was the sale of the real estate, then it was wait until the new sponsorship deal kicks in. Now it is the sirt sponsorship, kit deals, tv money.

We have been hearing all about our changing financial fortunes for years. The miracle is that we all fell for it again this summer.

I am goig way, way over the top here but i fancied a rant :hehe:
