weeks. I'm really not sure what the problem is. You can't build a squad based on the freakish possibility of losing four defenders within the first 90 minutes of the season.

It's annoying that they weren't available for the start of the season, but still, we should have been able to beat Villa with that team yesterday and probably would have done without some bad referee decisions and injuries

If he hasn't added quality players to the squad by Sep 2 then he deserves all the criticism he gets, but I'm sure he will

7 defenders is not enough for a cl and premier league squad. And the problem yetserday was our midfield which was missing just one player (i dont count diaby)

Two signings wont fix the problem.

Monty91

We only need one more (4th choice) centre back.

Midfield we need a replacement (numbers wise) for coquellin, unless wenger decided arteta's absence is long enough to justify a more established signing to compensate.

Nice of you to accept that liverpool's champions league in might possibly have been better than winning absolutely nothing :hehe:

Face it. Aside from the top four we have not achieved a sodding thing

Peter

We have brough in enough this summer to have funded a couple of half decent signings. f**k me, flamini would do and he would be free.

Something is going on. No idea what but i cant shale the feeling that there is a hint of disagreement as the top level as to what we should be doing.

Oh, and maybe the stadium and the turnover.

There is no other footballing reason to envy us. We have achieved nothing else and we are not even moving in the right direction. At this moment in time, i am not sure spurs would swap places. They probably feel they have a stronger squad.

Monty91
08-18-2013, 03:13 PM
which i disagree with, incidently.

That is because they envy our achievements. Contradictory of you to hold both views at same time.

Peter
08-18-2013, 03:20 PM
This is where we started. Its where i started. Where is the contradiction?

And while we are at it, didnt you specifically that we didnt need another defender just a week ago? Yet today......

Monty91
08-18-2013, 03:25 PM
Partly because of the sheer financial benefits, but equally because it is the only way to build a foundation to win trophies.

Do Spurs or Liverpool aspire to win the league? Of course not. First they aspire to finish in the top 4.

And I said we didn't necessarily need another defender when we still had Miguel as 4th choice. Now we are down to 3, of course we need another.

Monty91

crisis, and you don't build a squad assuming you may encounter a freakish injury crisis. Otherwise you will end up with a bloated squad when the crisis subsides. Or, more likely, the crisis won't even happen.

Maybe something is going on. Wenger hinted that it was the "team's" responsibility to make signings, not just his. By which he presumably meant his staff. Interesting, no?

Peter
08-18-2013, 03:29 PM
4th place may be the smbition of every club (i disagree with that by the way) but that doesnt mean they envy us. It isnt the same thing.

I dont envy us. f**king hell, even in the 80s we aspired to more than fourth.

How long do you think the club can keep filling the ground with 4th place as the height of our ambition? Serious question.....

Monty91
08-18-2013, 03:37 PM
You seem to believe the club is being run for pure financial profit and will continue to be so for ever more.

I don't know if that's true, but if it is I'm as unhappy as you.

If you want to explore the possibility that it's not true, then I'm happy to engage with you on that front...

Peter
08-18-2013, 03:55 PM
Gibbs has a poor injury record and actully may be ok. I dont think losing four defenders to injury counts as freakish. You have to be able to cope with that im afraid. Elsewhere, diaby we knew about so it is just one injury to arteta that has f**ked us up. Not good enough im afraid.

Overall the squad is stick thin. If he was gambling on getting trough to weeks with no injuries, i want to know why. Why are waiting?

Te coments may just be tht he is sick of getting all the blame. He may be hinting that he has bern clear ehat he wants and the negotiating teams have f**ked up. Hard to believe. We only have evidence to suggest two bids, one for bender and suarez. How can that be all they have done all summer?

Peter
08-18-2013, 03:59 PM
An amazing achievement, the envy of every club below us (something of a truism that)

I was politely pointing out that a lot of fans think that is *******s and will get more frustrated as the dituation continues.

For you, is there a point at which you will accept that this has gone too log and we should be aiming higher? Or is fourth and no trophy for every season this century an amazing achievement? Would you take it now?

Monty91
08-18-2013, 04:14 PM
a top four finish as a means to an end. As I alluded to in my previous post, the reason it is so important to finish top four is because by doing so you can build a foundation to win trophies.

There's a reason why every title winning club in the premiership era has preceeded their victory with a top 2-4 finish, and there's a reason why every champions league winning club has gained significant experience in the competition prior to their victory.

Of course, none of this detracts from the fact that 15 consecutive champions league campaigns, despite being out-spent by several rivals while you pay for a £350 million new stadium, is an amazing achievement and is still why we are the benchmark for every club in the country except three. They all aspire to our remarkable consistency.

Peter
08-18-2013, 04:23 PM
I mean, devise it yourself if you must.

E.g. If we are still here in ten years time, finishing a distant fourth and being told that there is money to spend, money we never see spent, will you start asking wiestions? Or would you e entirely happy?

This is purely an example. I know you wont answer it.

Monty91

You want us to have three left backs, including two full internationals? Even though one of our centre backs can play there? That's silly.

We have Per and Kosceilny on Wednesday and will hopefully only be short for just one league game (unless he buys between now and next week, which is possible). It is not ideal, but you are being melodramatic, especially with so many days left of the window.

Midfield I'm not sure if he is placing his faith in Ramsey, or whether he is planning to bring another face in. If he doesn't bring another midfield in, I'm happy to acknowledge your criticism may be valid (but I do only mean "may").

A world class striker would be nice, though. Just not that racist c**t.

Are all injured. We needed another centre back and i would e more comfortsble knowing wht the ninth option is as well.

The hole inmidfield cost us yesterday and will again in the next few games. We ae also pretty short up front.

Two new signings as you suggest will cover the biggest gaps but we will still hae a very small squad. Any repeat of the injury lists of recent seasons and we will hve problems every week.

You culd live with the left back issue if that was all it was. E has left us short everyhere. Give giroud a knock and we have a postman up front.

Peter

That wasnt what i asked. You answered a question, just not the one i asked you.

You seem to e accepting that top four is fine within financial constraints, and as long as they remain, it is ok. Take them away and we should achieve more? Or at least try to?

If so...where do you stand on ivan's comments? Do you think he was bull****ting us? Is that acceptable?

Lots of questions there :-)
