job was it to cover the CBs?
Just watched the game again (I know glutton for punishment). Systematically, when either Jack, or Aron, or Thomas gets the ball from the CHs he would pass it forward and then just follow up with his run. There was no definitive "holder" just three runners. Wheras, when Arteta gets the ball, he passes it while keeping mobile, still stays behind and lets the play unfold before him, becoming the pivot that can be activated by the players in front of him when they need to pass the ball back, but also facing with his back to our goal any counters from lost balls from Jack or Ramsey (who do give it away at times because of the way they play.)
Who was supposed to hold today? Because, look, we do hold/sit when Arteta is there, so it is not like we just do not play that way. Someone simply did not do his job (I suspect Aaron who just is not drilled int the possition and just has the urge to run ahead, pressing or looking to play his regular "runner" role).
On the first goal, there was a hole in the middle which allowed Abonglaor to just get in (Ramsey was running back and was easily dispensed with, not "sitting" and facing him, as Arteta normally does.) On the second goal, again the counter attack led straight to the CBs, without a shield.
Either jack or Aaron was supposed to hold. They simply did not do it, and were not directed form the bench to adjust, unfortunately...
