View Full Version : Is it better to fly to Edinburgh or get the train?

flights seem cheaper but the mess of going to airports and waiting around sort of make it the same time in the end. Or I can get the train from Central london and relax.

But £200+ for a train fare. This country makes me sick.

That said, assuming you're with the girlfriend, take the sleeper train and make it a bet special

(for which you're being forced to wear a kilt), picking up a hire car and driving one hour to stirling, not being able to drink at said party, driving back to a ****ty airport hotel in edinburgh to catch an early morning flight back to London the next day, hoping and praying you make your 1.5 hour connection to Italy for a 1 week holiday.

Did you watch the Ryanair thing on Dispatches the other night?

Waste of time that programme.

yes I missed the flight :-(

Was slim chance when the first plane left 30 minutes late.

running through the airport like a movie 'I must get on this plane'
I said to the lady at the desk.

she said good luck it's in the sky.

So Ryanair don't carry twice as much fuel as they are told they have to. I didn't think for one second they would, how else can I fly with them for £8.

don't operate to the same safety standards as everyone else. But what the hell, what's the worst that can happen?

I wouldn't watch a programme about Ryanair. It would just make me shout at the tv.

I mean, the plane will still have two wings and an engine, maybe 2.

US warship or something.

really what matters. Some carriers, for example Lao Air, are banned from flying outside Laos because their safety record is so poor.

Guess who I'm booking with today? :-(

If alone, I'm happy to take care of her should the worst happen...

I have almost no doubt that there will be plenty of men there dressed in trousers. Are you sure your other half isn't fiendishly setting you up for an evening of joshing at the hands of her red-in-the-face family members?

People get murdered on them all the time.

Personally I have fallen out of love with train journeys as they are usually noisy, smelly and full of stoodents. I think there may be a connection

I stayed at The Clift, which I believe is an Ian Schrager? Top class, it was, with an exceptionally trendy bar.

The trip sounds great.

is business. Well, when I say business I mean they are paying for me to spend large amounts of time sightseeing, eating and drinking. I do have to spend a few hours at an exhibition but I am extending the trip to take in San Fran for a holiday.

My daughter is taking a gap year and spending 4 months in Thailand. We are probably flying over in March to see her for her birthday. Treating them to a weekend in the OM. We shall then head off somewhere else to be decided. We like the look of Vietnam

For Ho Chi Minh city I'd recommend http://www.caravellehotel.com/en/7/info.aspx excellent location and a great rooftop bar.

after Newcastle Northumberland is pretty stunning and you arrive in the centre of town in Edinburgh.
