Rob Heffernan won the 50km walk in Moscow to give Ireland their first World Athletics Championships gold in 18 years.

Quite apart from the inherent silliness of a walking race, if you actually watch the competitors closely every single one of them breaks the only sodding rule the event has.

RIDICULES!

Literally people walking (most of the time, apparently)

Not an unqualified success, I'll grant you, but at least an effort.

In walking they won't use slow motion replays because if they applied the rules they would have to disqualify just about everyone.

If a Brit won it you'd be claiming you invented the f**king thing.

Not sure ol' Blighty is too desperate to add competitive walking to the list.

A British fella won Wimbledon and I still don't give a ****e about that.

Race walking is bloody silly and you know it is.

You're saying you couldn't enjoy a football match if the ref didn't make a mistake.

*******s imo.

Walking in a manner that suggests you are busting for a ****e, not for me.

The whole British thing with Murray I don't get either. Let's be honest, most English don't give a f**k about the jocks or the Welsh, and vice versa.

referee's a ****er' songs, frees taken ten times for wall not back 10 yards, no rows in pub after, 13.7% of goals presently given being ruled out for offside, BORING.

Scottish racing drivers generally get supported by British motor sport fans. Welsh cricketers get supported playing for England.

There was even a certain amount for support in England for Scotland in the 74 and 78 World Cups. Surprise Fact!

In which team do six-counties athletes compete at the Olympics? The free state or the occupying one? Or is there a choice?

Much **** going on at the moment about Rory McIlroy at the next Olympics and who he will play for.

Silly really as it completely overshadows the real issue of Golf being an Olympic sport.

who was actually a bit ****. Tony Lewis was captain briefly in the 70s. I think they oversell themselves when they talk about the great contribution they have made to the England team. More Irishers have played recently
